Casey Stoner will start Sunday’s Catalan Grand Prix from pole position after topping MotoGP qualifying for the second time this season.
The Australian set his best time of 1:41.30s with eight minutes still remaining in the hour-long session.
The result marks the 40th pole position of Stoner’s Grand Prix career, which is set to come to an end at the conclusion of the 2012 season.
Yamaha riders Jorge Lorenzo, Cal Crutchlow and Ben Spies filled second through fourth, with the Briton securing his third front-row start in five races.
Dani Pedrosa ended the session with just the fifth fastest time after running off at Turn 10 during the final minutes.
Andrea Dovizioso, Nicky Hayden, Stefan Bradl, Valentino Rossi and Alvaro Bautista rounded out the top 10, while Randy de Puniet was fastest of the CRT riders in 13th.
