A Victorian teenager is gearing up to become the youngest ever competitor in Australian GT next season.
Ryan How is planning to compete in the Australian GT Trophy Series following the purchase of a 2011 specification ex-Greg Taylor Audi R8 GT3.
The young Aussie, who turns 15 next month, plans to share the car with experienced GT campaigner Taylor in the series next year.
How will require special dispensation from CAMS to compete in the category with the class permitting drivers aged 16 and over.
The move represents a huge leap for the teenager, who has limited karting experience and only previously contested one circuit race meeting in a Mini Challenge car at Winton, earlier this year.
How has undergone two tests in the Audi R8 and is set to race the car for the first time at this weekend’s Island Magic meeting at Phillip Island.
“I feel I’m doing alright in the car but there is a lot to take in,” How told Speedcafe.com.
“I have gone from driving nothing to a Mini and now the Audi R8. The speed is awesome.
“We have been to every event the Audi Customer Racing Australia guys do and I have been trying to learn as much as I can.
“I will take it slowly. I’m not going rush into everything.
“Greg (Taylor) will be my guideline for everything. I get on really well with him.”
The Australian GT Trophy Series will be contested over five rounds next year beginning at Sandown from April 7-9.
