After making his V8 Supercar Championship Series debut this year’s endurance races, Marcus Zukanovic is planning a revitalised Fujitsu Series campaign for 2011.
The former V8 Ute and Commodore Cup champion is set to return for a fourth season in the Fujitsu Series, with Action Racing looking to replace the ex-Garth Tander VZ Commodore they’ve run since 2007.
“This year’s Fujitsu Series has been all about getting back up to speed after the testing accident that saw me sit out last season,” Zukanovic told Speedcafe.com.au.
“I’m now back to where I was physically before the accident, and we made a great step forward with the car at Townsville, which should help us in the last couple of rounds.
“Doing the two endurance races in the Main Game was a great experience, and the miles we did were massive compared to the amount of running you do at a Fujitsu Series event.
“Next year we’ll be in a VE for a proper assault on the championship”.
While Action Racing team principal Mick Zukanovic would not confirm where the VE will be sourced from, Paul Morris Motorsport appears to be a distinct possibility, after Marcus tested with the team earlier in the year.
“There’ll be plenty of VEs around at the end of the season, and we’ll go through all our options and make a decision on it,” said Mick Zukanovic.
Mick Zukanovic also said that he’d like to see Action Racing move into the Main Series in the future.
“A few years down the track we’d like to start looking to move into the Main Series,” he said.
“Every Fujitsu Series team would like to step up eventually, and we’re no different.
“But for now, we’re really focussed the Fujitsu Series. We’ve had a new engineer, Gerard McLeod, come onboard this year, and he’s been fantastic. Marcus and Gerard work together really well.
“Action Racing have won in the V8 Utes and in Commodore Cup, and I’ve got no doubt that we’ll win in the Fujitsu Series once we get all he right things in place.”
