Ford Performance Racing team principal Tim Edwards says that Mark Winterbottom can win the V8 Supercar Championship Series – if the team gets everything right

Ford Performance Racing team principal Tim Edwards says that the team has to “get it together” – and when it does, it will win a V8 Supercar Championship Series.

The factory Ford boss and V8 Supercar board member saw the team slump to its worst Team’s Championship result in three years, finishing fourth behind Toll HRT, TeamVodafone and Dick Johnson Racing.

Edwards told Speedcafe.com.au that winning the championship next year will be the toughest task in the history of the sport – but says that FPR has the capability to get the job done.

“Fifth in the championship for Frosty (Mark Winterbottom), 13th for Richo (Steven Richards) and fourth in the Team’s Championship is not what we expected coming into this season,” he said.

“Our expectation is that we have a good crack at the championship next year, but it’s going to be hard – the championship has never been closer. Next year, they’ll be three DJR cars, three SBR cars, three FPR cars, four Clayton cars, four Triple Eight cars – the level of competition is getting higher all the time.

“There’s no one out there doing a bad job. It’s harder than it’s even been, but that said, we believe that we’re going to have a good crack at the championship.

“Frosty has the capability of doing it, and the team has the capability to do it, but we’ve got to get it all together.”
