Challenging Dubai 24H for Caitlin Wood

MEDIA RELEASE: Australian driver Caitlin Wood took on the Dubai 24h in an all ladies driver line-up with German team Reiter Engineering in the KTM X-BOW GT4 in the SP3 GT4 class.

Wood drove alongside Belgium Naomi Schiff, Norwegian Anna Rathe and Swiss Marylin Niederhauser.

The ladies lined up against 18 other GT4 cars in the huge 98 car field.

Wood put the #246 car on P8 in class and P55 overall for the start of the race, in which she had a great first 2 hour stint moving the car up to P4 in class and P46 overall whilst also setting the 2nd quickest GT4 time of the race.

Rathe was in next in which she maintained P5 before handing the car over to Niederhauser who unfortunately was caught up in an accident which kept the car in the pits for 3 hours.

During the night, the car sustained more damage which put the car back in the pit for a few more hours. Wood got back in the seat at 3.30am in which the car ran smoothly until the chequered flag.

Wood said: “We didn’t have a great night with Marylin having quite heavy contact which put us out of contention for an overall result but the guys at Reiter Engineering did an amazing job to get the car back out on track.

“We need to take the positives out of the race in which there was a lot of potential to come out with a strong result but unfortunately that’s just motorsport”

“Despite the negatives, I had an absolute ball out on track with all of the other cars and I can’t thank Reiter Engineering, KTM, FedEx for making this possible. I can’t wait to hopefully tackle another 24H event but now full focus to my Blancpain campaign for 2017.”
