Fast Duggan ready to lower Bathurst benchmark

Emily Duggan may already hold the fastest-ever time around Australia’s most famous racetrack, Mount Panorama, in a Hyundai Excel, but the feisty female wants to improve upon the benchmark when she tackles Challenge Bathurst this weekend.

Duggan set a 3:00.674 lap time in last year’s Challenge Bathurst event, and says an improvement of a couple of seconds is certainly possible aboard her SmartFuels2Race Excel.

Duggan will participate in the Group C regularity category and will compete in three 20 minute sessions on Saturday and Sunday.

“Last year was the first time I had driven around Mount Panorama – since then, I’ve had almost 12 months to reflect on the experience, and I’ve done hundreds of laps in my head.

“Over the top of the Mountain, you’re dancing the car right on the limit through Reid Park and McPhillamy Park, and then guiding it through the concrete canyon at the Esses and the Dipper.

“In order to do the fastest lap, you have to be millimetres away from having a massive crash. It’s the ultimate place for rewarding commitment and bravery.”

“There are two hours of track time and I’ll be making the most of every second – I fell in love with the Mountain last year and I can’t wait to drive around it again!”
