Leading woman racer Emily Duggan has extended her podium streak to six consecutive races, producing another front-running performance in the Series X3 NSW special event at Sydney Motorsport Park’s Brabham Circuit on the weekend.
After qualifying second, Duggan bounced back from a collision in Race 1 to finish third. She won Race 2, and came home second in Race 3 to clinch second overall for the round.
“The Series X3 cars were mixed in with the Pulsar Series, and in Race 1 I was unfortunately caught up in an incident when a Pulsar stopped at Turn 4,” Duggan said.
“Fortunately the damage only seemed to be cosmetic and I used what I had to fight back to third place.”
After some overnight repairs, Duggan and her Excel race car returned to the circuit in Race 2, the Dural driver prevailing after a fierce contest with Jay Robotham.
“I made a ripper start and took the lead off the second row ,” Duggan said.
“Jay made a couple of moves but I was always able to recapture the lead – it was a lot of fun, and very rewarding to be back on top after the earlier dramas.”
In Race 3, Duggan took a well-earned second place after another tight battle with Robotham and Ben Bargwanna.
“It was good to finish on the podium again, especially after the Saturday dramas,” Duggan said.
“Despite the damage sustained on Saturday, the car was still competitive all weekend; the Supashock dampers provided a good compromise between high-speed stability and low-speed turn-in while the Winmax brake pads gave me great confidence for the heavy braking applications, especially Turn 2.”
The next round of Series X3 NSW will be held on the Sydney Motorsport Park North Circuit on 3 June.
