Veal’s strong Australian Title

Veal’s Strong Australian TitleDespite missing out on a podium in last weekend’s Australian 410 Sprintcar Championship at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway in South Australia, Jamie Veal still managed to come away with a pleasing top-five finish.

The Krikke Motorsport team driver had qualified on the outside of the front row for Saturday night’s Australian Championship-deciding feature race and sat in second place for the first half of the 40-lap distance, before the track changed when the rubber came in, which saw Veal lose a spot to eventual winner Kerry Madsen. From there, Veal stayed in third place for the bulk of the second half of the race, before losing third place to Matt Egel in the closing stages and having to settle for fourth place.

Apart from a top-five finish in the Australian Championship decider, the team’s weekend highlight was Veal’s dominant preliminary feature-race win on the Friday night ahead of Kerry Madsen and Brooke Tatnell.

Veal had qualified in pole position for the preliminary feature race, but he had opted to start from the outside of the front row. From the drop of the green flag, he powered to the lead and came away with a comfortable win at the completion of the 25-lap distance.

For Veal and the team, it was their second feature-race win of the season and it provided them with a confidence boost.

“It was good to bounce back from the previous weekend’s disappointment at the Grand Annual Classic,” commented the driver of the WA # 2 Transport Equipment Hire / Pumpa Manufacturing backed Maxim.

“Although it was tough to miss out on a podium at the Australian Championship, we had a really strong weekend and the goal for the rest of the season is to build on that as we chase the World Series Sprintcars Championship.”

This Friday and Saturday night, the WSS Championship resumes after a three-week break in Tasmania at Latrobe’s Gulf Western & Independent Oils Raceway for rounds eight and nine. The last time Veal visited the state was back when he contested the 2014 Australian 410 Sprintcar Championship.

Heading down to Tasmania, Veal currently sits third in the standings, behind leader Kerry Madsen (2147) and defending WSS Champion James McFadden (2027), with a total of 1707 points.
