AMSAG spreads its wings

AMSAG spreads its wingsThe 2017 Pipe King Southern Cross Rally Series has expanded to include six rounds. With two events each to the West, South and North of Sydney, AMSAG hopes to attract new and existing competitors for this exciting new look season.

The Pipe King Southern Cross Rally Series begins West of Sydney on March 18 at Oberon, before heading to the South East of the NSW Riverina at Rosewood in May, followed by a 2 day event in the Bega Valley on the June long weekend. Events on the Mid-North Coast at Bulahdelah and Johns River fill out the back end of the season, with a second event West of Sydney at Orange in August.

In line with the relaxed nature of the series, there is no registration fee, and all competitors are eligible to score points.

AMSAG’s popularity continues to grow in NSW as many competitors choose to align themselves to the long-running series, now in its 22nd year. The regulations have for the most part, have remained unchanged for the past 7 years, with the club resisting the introduction of most limitations, instead allowing the competitors freedom of choice when it comes to safety equipment and vehicle modifications above and beyond the minimum standard.

Safety and vehicle preparation standards are still of paramount importance to AMSAG, with competitors able to enter either the Classic or Open category. AMSAG Classics are naturally-aspirated pre1991 2wd vehicles such as Australian Rallying stalwarts the Datsun 1600 and Ford Escort. The Open category consists of mostly modern vehicles such as 4WD Mitsubishi Evo and Subaru WRX or 2WD Nissan Silvia and Hyundai Excels, however also caters for those vehicles that don’t comply with AMSAG Classic regulations such as Subaru Legacy and Mitsubishi VR4 and also non traditional vehicles such as Turbo Charged Datsun 1600’s.

AMSAG competitor and safety information is available at www.amsag.com.au.

Round 1 begins this Saturday 18th March in forestry areas surrounding Oberon, West of Sydney, with a quality field of 37 entries across both the Classic and Open classes.
