Arnold’s podium joy

While he only has just under a dozen race meetings to his name during his debut season in Speedcars, that’s all it’s taken for Glen Arnold to achieve his first milestone in the class with a pleasing podium result at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway.

Purchasing the Mopar-powered NSW # 43 Keane Air Conditioning supported Spike car at the beginning of the season, the former Legend Car racer, from Shoalhaven Heads on the South Coast of NSW, has thoroughly enjoyed his transition into Speedcars, even more so now that the results have begun to roll in.

Qualifying in seventh on the inside of the fourth row for last Saturday night’s feature race during the Latest NSW Club Championship round, by virtue of a consistent third and fourth-place finish in his heat races, Arnold made quick work of the opening couple of laps, settling into second place in the early stages of the 25-lap distance.

Slipping backwards amongst the formidable competition to sixth place by lap 15, Arnold stayed out of trouble, making his way back up to fourth place before taking over third on the final lap to achieve what is no doubt the first of many podium results to come.

“At the beginning of the season, we were just hoping to be able to challenge for top-10 results, so to score our first podium this early in the piece is a massive accomplishment for us,” expressed Arnold.

“We’ve been learning a lot and making numerous changes to the car throughout the season, and this result shows how far our team’s come in such a short time. Getting used to the speed of these cars in comparison to Legend Cars has been a big learning curve, but it feels like we’re starting to get on top of it.”

This podium result certainly bodes well for the 23-year-old racer heading into what will be a big month of racing, with Arnold back in action for a club show this Saturday night, before contesting the NSW Title on April 27 and the prestigious 50 Lapper over two nights on May 3 and 4.

“We’re really looking forward to the next three race meetings and our third-place finish has definitely given us some added confidence,” added Arnold.

“The calibre of competition, particularly in the NSW Title and 50 Lapper, will be extremely tough, so we’re not putting too much pressure on ourselves. Hopefully we can make it into the feature races and come away with a strong result.”

Throughout the 2018-19 season, Arnold is proudly supported by the following sponsors: Keane Air Conditioning, MPR Signs, AA Panel Craft, Jobson Motorsport, and Bluey Brushstrokes.

Special thanks go to his dad Homer, Scott Keane, Keith Keane, and his fellow racers Mark Cooper, Troy and Darren Jenkins and Brett Morris for all of their help and advice.
