MEDIA RELEASE: The Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals will support the newest initiative from Australian Formula Ford to mentor and develop young media talent via a brand-new internship program.

The Formula Ford Association has launched a brand new media mentoring campaign, which will give aspiring sports journalists a chance to work in motor racing as part of an internship program.

An aspiring writer will be in charge of handling the Australian Formula Ford Series’ media relations at the upcoming round at Sydney Motorsport Park, including writing post-session reports, updating Formula Ford’s social media accounts, and working with photographers, drivers and team personnel to create the best content possible across the whole weekend.

The Shannons Nationals will assist the program and provide additional reach via the series’ own social networking and media connections, as well as logistical support at the event itself.

The Nationals will also provide introductions to key people within the paddock, representing the circuit, management, commentary and TV production areas to ensure the candidate receives a comprehensive ‘overall’ look at the sport and its many facets.

“Formula Ford has a long history in Australia of developing talent in motorsport,” said FFA Chairman John van Leeuwen.

“But it’s not just drivers and engineers that benefit from spending time in our category. Over the years we’ve helped people from all walks of motor racing life develop their skills and go on to much bigger things, including young journalists.

“Now we want to take it to the next level by offering internships for aspiring journalists or PR people that want real life experience.”

The program will overseen by experienced motor racing writer and editor Andrew van Leeuwen, who will offer guidance to the intern throughout the weekend.

Anyone can apply for the program, regardless of age or prior experience. All that’s required is availability all day on July 4 and 5, and your own transport to and from Sydney Motorsport Park.

All accreditation and parking passes will be supplied, as will a wage for the weekend to help cover expenses.

To apply, please send a short cover letter outlining why you would like to be a Formula Ford intern to [email protected]
