A fantastic weekends racing at Phillip Island for the Inaugural 2 Litre Festival. A great grid of cars from the 2 Litre Sports Sedan Club and the Australian Pulsar Racing Association as part of the PIARC Endurance Access meeting.
The drivers raced in mixed conditions over the two days of racing. With wet conditions on the Saturday suiting the FWD Pulsars and the dry conditions on Sunday favoring the Sports Sedans. The strengths in the different cars provided entertaining racing over the weekend.
Lee Uhlhorn / Mazda RX7 was back after a 2 ½ year break and dominated all 3 races taking the clean sweep. Lee started the race out the front but Andrew Pinkerton / Datsun 1600 was on a charge, trying to chase Lee down. Robert Pepper got the final podium position with a great run in his APRA Pulsar.
The rain held off for Sunday’s races and the slicks came out for the Sports Sedans. Lee Uhlhorn again got the jump while the Lee Partridge / Mazda RX7 and Barry Megaw Datsun / 1600 worked there way through the field to complete the podium. Steve Cannizzo was the top Pulsar in a fighting 8th position. Some incidents and mechanical issues had the teams battling to get some cars back out for the final race.
Final race of the weekend and Lee Uhlhorn was at it again setting the pace from the front. Lee Partridge had splitter issues and his race ended with a DNF. The battle for 2nd, 3rd and 4th was epic between Barry Megaw, Brendan Woods and Steve Howard. Sam Speer in the repaired Alfa GTAM put a solid drive to make up to 7th after his Race 2 DNF. Steve Cannizzo lead home the pack of Pulsars followed by Lee Nuttall, Matthew Butters and Brett Mitchell.
An excellent of weekend racing with great sprint between competitors and support crews. The crews are already looking forward to next years event.
