In a shock announcement today, Horizon Motorsport, from Rouse Hill in Sydney’s North West, announced that they will now be taking over the entire racing operations of one of New South Wales Supersports leading competitors, Darren Barlow.
Darren, a multiple New South Wales Supersports State Champion, quietly moved his Stohr WF1 to the Horizon Motorsport workshops in late 2022, and from that time it as been undergoing a round-the-clock major rebuild and upgrade as Darren looks to maintain a high level of competitiveness as more high-technology carbon fibre chassis and turbocharged Supersports cars are rumoured to soon be appearing in the 2023 Industrie Clothing new South Wales Supersports Championship.
Darren’s Stohr is an American engineered central-seater motorcycle-engined Category 6SR class car which obtains its speed from its feather-light weight, with Darren having previously lapped Sydney Motorsport Park in a barely believable 1.26.9, which is over 1.5 seconds faster than Jamie Whincup’s Supercars lap record.
With critical parts for the Stohr’s upgrade being sourced mostly from the USA, Horizon Motorsport’s program of work will continue around the clock to ensure that Darren’s Stohr appears at the Round 1 of the 2023 New South Wales Supersports Championship at Phillip Island on the 4th and 5th of March, and will also include a shakedown of the Stohr at Winton in the week preceding Phillip Island.
From the beginning of the 2022 New South Wales Supersports racing season, Darren’s Stohr was personally engineered at the tracks by his former racing team mate and also former Supersports champion, Adam Proctor.
With Adam’s services being retained for another year by Darren, and combined with the Stohr’s upgrade work, Darren is certain to be fighting for race wins throughout 2023.
