Veal’s Triumphant KMS debut

Veal’s Triumphant KMS DebutTo say that the Krikke Motorsport team and their new team driver Jamie Veal hit the ground running in their 2017-18 season debut is a huge understatement, with the duo clinching last Saturday night’s Western Australian 410 Sprintcar Title at the Perth Motorplex in what was their first ever appearance together.

Despite battling slight vision impairment during the WA Title-deciding feature race due to running out of tear offs on what was a muddy track, Veal refused to lose focus, managing to hit his marks and go on to score the team’s first victory of the season.

“It’s great to be able to start our season off with a win. The car got better and better as the feature race went on, I just need to work on pulling off my tear offs,” joked Veal.

“Having crew chief Dylan Buswell, who I’ve worked with previously, at the track, along with the rest of the hardworking team, definitely makes a huge difference in terms of what we’re able to achieve, so I have to say a huge thanks to them for making the WA Title win a possibility.

“It’s an amazing opportunity to be a part of such an iconic team in Krikke Motorsport, that have such a huge fan base, and as a driver, I have the same expectations of myself that they do, so I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve throughout the rest of the season.”

Beginning his WA Title campaign as the second quickest driver in his hot laps group, before setting the sixth quickest lap (14.134 seconds) in qualifying time trials, Veal placed third from second in his opening heat race and came home fifth in heat-race two, after starting seventh.

Lining up on the outside of the third row for the 30-lap WA Title-deciding feature race, the Warrnambool, Victoria-based driver made a great start aboard the WA # 2 Transport Equipment Hire / Pumpa Manufacturing supported Maxim car, immediately making up two positions; however, a full restart, due to a crash on the opening lap, forced Veal back into his starting position, making it more difficult to get the jump off the line.

Moving into fifth place in the opening stages, Veal launched himself into podium contention on lap eight, taking over third place, where he remained for the next third of the race, before making his way into second when Darren Mollenoyux retired from the race. It took no time for Veal to hunt down race leader Kaiden Manders, showing impressive speed to pip Manders and take control of the lead with seven laps to go.

For their next outing, the Krikke Motorsport team will be travelling to Veal’s home track – Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway – this Saturday night, where they will contest the third annual Max’s Race.
