At Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway last Sunday night, Speedcar racer Darren Vine managed to bank more valuable points in his quest for Polar Ice Series victory as he delivered a convincing victory in the seventh series round.
Despite his regular turbo-powered Qld # 19 Mike Vine Turbo supported Triple X car currently being sidelined because of a delay in engine parts, that hasn’t stopped Vine from remaining at the pointy end of the Polar Ice Series point standings, filling the driver’s seat in his brother-in-law Paul McMannim’s Qld # 6 Esslinger powered Spike car, and last Sunday night was certainly no exception.
Experiencing a solid run earlier in the night with a fourth and a win in his heat races, Vine was set to start the feature race from the outside of the second row, but it didn’t take him long to hit the front of the field.
Making his way into second place by lap two, Vine quickly took over the lead just four laps later, going on to earn a comfortable win, along with recording the fastest lap of the race in the process.
“Every win we can achieve gets us closer to the top of the Polar Ice Series point standings, so last Sunday night’s result was a pleasing one,” commented the Capalaba, Queensland-based driver, who has now picked up three Speedcar feature-race wins so far this season.
“It’s so far been a consistent season for us, and our goal is to continue that in order to stay in contention for the Polar Ice Series.”
Vine’s most recent win couldn’t have come at a better time, following what was a heartbreaking conclusion to the Queensland Title at Lismore Speedway the previous weekend, which saw him get tangled up with a lapped car and crashing out while comfortably leading the feature race with just five laps remaining.
“It’s definitely a fantastic feeling to bounce back from the Queensland Title disappointment with a win,” he added.
“In saying that, our speed has never been an issue, so we’re confident that if we can remain consistent for the remainder of the season, we can hopefully finish the season in strong fashion.”
Focusing on the Polar Ice Series, the eighth round of the series will take place on February 9 at Archerfield Speedway, followed by the annual running of the Australian Grand Prix at Lismore Speedway on March 23. Vine’s next race meetings will take place at Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway on February 2 and March 2.
