Local driver Kane Rose has beaten South Australian John Goodacre to victory in Race 1 of the Porsche Staff Solutions GT3 Cup Challenge at Phillip Island.
In his first drive of a Type 997 911 in the class, Rose stalked pole-sitter Goodacre for the majority of the race before taking the lead at Lukey Heights on the penultimate lap.
Goodacre went on to finish 1.28s adrift of the winner in second, while 21-year-old category debutant Fraser Ross held off a determined John Morriss for third.
John Modystach took fifth from Terry Knight on the final lap, while Michael Almond, Brent Odgers, Jeff Bobik and Adam Marjoram rounded out the top 10.
Bobik had charged through the field after a qualifying incident necessitated a pitlane start.
Run in dry conditions, the race had one of its scheduled 10 laps removed prior to the start due to delays in the day's schedule.
A further two GT3 Cup Challenge races will take place tomorrow as part of Round 3 of the Shannons Nationals presented by Hi-Tec Oils.
