Craig Lowndes' maiden laps of the KL City GP circuit haveĀ been hit by heavy rain.
After a delayed start to the day due to the final touches being completed on the track, all five V8 Supercars went from the paddock area to the pitlane on the opposite side of the track.
Then moments before Lowndes took to the track the heavens opened.
The heavy rain and standingĀ water made for extreme conditions.
Lowndes clocked times in excess of two minutes around the 3.2km course as he carefullyĀ completed his three allocated laps before pulling back into pitlane.
“There was so much standing water out there,” he said. “If it was a race I would have pulled in.
“Like any street circuit drainage can be an issue, but with rain that heavy you'd have to think at any track it would have been an issue.”
With the rain easing as soon as Lowndes completed his run, the full five-car V8 practice session is scheduledĀ to get underwayĀ from 1450 local time.
