ACT Speedway lights up for night show

ACT Speedway Lights Up for Night ShowIn a development which could permanently change the face of speedway racing throughout the Australian Capital Territory, Canberra’s ACT Speedway is set to switch on its lights in the 2018-19 season when they host the first night race meeting in over two decades, which will be a trial for future night racing throughout the territory.

Since the closure of Canberra’s Fraser Park Speedway back in 1997, speedway racing throughout the Australian Capital Territory has been conducted during the day, which is a practice that differs to around 90 percent of the 100 speedway tracks currently operating throughout the country.

With the sport of speedway traditionally being associated with night racing, the ACT Speedway Club has been working very hard with the ACT government to shed light on this fact, so to speak, with this development having been in the making for around a decade.

“This trial race meeting is just one step forward in our efforts to make night racing a permanent fixture in the ACT, but it’s certainly a fantastic one towards the future of speedway in the area,” said Danny Hodak, the President of ACT Speedway Club, which has been operating as a club for three decades.

“Night racing would also be a huge step forward in terms of Canberra’s night entertainment scene, offering both locals and visitors a family-friendly activity in the evening.

“Without support from club members and especially fans, night racing will remain a thing of the past in the ACT, so we’re strongly encouraging people to come along to our meeting and show their support.”

Hopefully being the springboard for a permanent change in the territory’s speedway scene, this once-off spring-time event is set to take place on the Saturday night of September 22.

So far, the program will consist of Legend Cars, Production Sedans, RSA Street Stockers and RSA Junior Sedans, with the club currently in negotiations with a number of other classes.

ACT Speedway would like to thank the following 2018-19 season sponsors for their valued support: Gasweld – Fyshwick, Canberra Toyota, Lexus of Canberra, Holcim – Canberra, Summiitt Earthworks, Specialized Towing, Hodak Earthmoving, Cancillier Motors, LubeAlloy/LA Racing Lubricants, Goodyear Autocare – Fyshwick, Canberra Rex Hotel, BASC, Rubik 3 Strategic Business Solutions, Magnum Steel, Weldcraft Engineering, Atlas Windows, Maximum Action Photography, Canberra Cranes, Canberra Truck Align, Better Trailers, John Lodge Water Cartage, and Tint Me Up.

Special thanks go to all of the dedicated club members and volunteers for their continued help and support throughout the off season.
