Podium result for Sonic in Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge in Queensland

Podium result for Sonic in Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge in QueenslandAaron Love has claimed a podium finish in Round 4 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge at Queensland Raceway today.

The 16 year old was a model of consistency, despite an off-track moment in Race 1 that he overcome.

While he only claimed a best result of fourth in Races 2 and 3, Love bagged enough points to claim an overall podium for the weekend, keeping him in touch with the leaders of a close title fight.

Max Vidau took Sonic to a victory in Race 1 and was looking like the man to beat, however, a fuel pump failure in Race 2 saw him fail to finish.

An inspired drive in Race 3 saw him climb from the back of the field up to third place, ensuring that he remains in the hunt for the GT3 Cup title.

The team’s Amateur class driver Graham Williams finished fifth and sixth in the first two races, but a start line incident saw him record a DNF in Sunday’s third race.

The next round of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge will be held at Sundown Raceway on September 20-22.

“I didn’t have the best qualifying and then had some bad luck towards the start of Race 1,” said Aaron Love.

“I fought back hard and just tried to stay in the top five all weekend. It was a hard fought weekend. There were a couple of incidents, but we’ll move onto the next round.

“I’m still learning my craft. Sonic has helped me a lot – I haven’t driven anything like this before and just learning the driving style required. We’ll keep on learning and keep on moving forward.”

“We struggled a bit on Friday and in qualifying but our race pace was awesome,” said Max Vidau.

“I won Race 1 and I was leading Race 2, pulling away, but I picked up a fuel pump failure, which isn’t ideal.

“Race 3 was full of Safety Cars, so we were stuck behind the pack but we managed to pick our way through from the back to a podium so I can’t complain about that.

“We’ve show we have the speed, so Sandown can’t come around fast enough!”

“Race 1 was good. It was awesome, actually, but Race 2 was my best. I did my fastest lap on Lap 17, so I had really strong race pace. I passed five cars after a spin,” said Graham Williams.

“Race 3, I didn’t even make it to Turn 1, so we’ll have to wait and see what the outcome of that is.

“I’m really having fun. I love this class and driving these cars. It’s such a blast.”
