An ex-Larry Perkins Group A Commodore will make its first racing appearance in 24 years when it debuts in the Heritage Touring Car class at this weekend's Muscle Car Masters.
Recently restored by current owner Glen Featherstone, the car made two appearances in the 1987 World Touring Car Championship in the hands of Perkins and former World Drivers' champion Denny Hulme.
It then became Perkins' car for the following year's Australian Touring Car Championship, where it was notably the first car to compete under the HSV banner in the process.
Upgraded to ‘Walkinshaw' VL specification before being sold by the factory team, the car's last race occurred in the hands of privateers Trevor Ashby and Steve Read at Sydney Motorsport Park in 1990.
The car has been returned to its 1988 trim ahead of its maiden HTC appearance, where Featherstone will compete among a 34-strong field of genuine Group A and C machinery.
Other notable entrants include the return of Jim Richards in his 1990 ATCC winning HR31 Nissan Skyline and the addition of Paul Stubber's ex-John Harvey Holden Dealer Team Torana A9X.
The Group A and C points standings are being led by David Towe (JPS BMW M3) and John Douglas (Mazda RX-7) respectively after three of five rounds.
The HTC series headlines the racing component of the Muscle Car Masters event, which is this year without its usual Touring Car Masters drawcard.
The HTC field will take part in six races, utilising all three of SMP's track layouts.
Other racing action will be provided by the Queensland-based Australian Trans-Am Series, Group N Touring Cars, Group S sportscars and HQ Holdens.
