Tom Williamson will make his V8 Utes debut in the next round at Mount Panorama after scoring a drive in the Chris Pither scholarship entry.
Williamson, a former karter and Formula Ford racer, will drive the Holden VE at Bathurst, becoming the third driver to be granted a driver courtesy of the Chris Pither Scholarship Award – powered by Ice Break.
The award recognises young talent, placing them in the V8 Ute field. Jesse Dixon and Andrew Waite were the past recipients of the award.
“Although it's the toughest track to make my V8 Ute race debut, I'm really looking forward to it and can't wait to get up there,” said Williamson.
“I'm not expecting to go out and win anything. I'm here for experience and to get the car home safely, it's my first time around the track so I'll be learning with every lap I do. I'm really looking forward to it.”
Williamson and the rest of the Auto One V8 Utes pack will hit the track at Bathurst on Thursday for practice before another practice session and qualifying on Friday. Three races will be held on Saturday and Sunday.
Nathan Pretty currently leads the series ahead of Ryal Harris and Andrew Fisher.
