Lakeside 300 team spotlight – Sugden & Elliot

Lakeside 300 team spotlight - Sugden & ElliotCar 9 | Daniel Sugden/Grant Elliot

BMW is the most represented manufacturer on the grid for Sunday’s Lakeside 300, with no less than four entries.

One of those entries is the E36 3.0L Production Car of Grant Elliot and Daniel Sugden.

Sugden is no stranger to endurance racing – he’s been a regular on the grid at Wakefield, Winton, Willowbank and Lakeside 300’s in the past, and this weekend will be his second crack at the Lakeside event.

He will go into the weekend hopeful of a better run of luck than he experienced here twelve months ago. On that occasion, Sugden teamed up with Daniel Williams, in a Toyota Camry, but they didn’t make it to the finish – retiring after only 51 laps.

Sugden hails from Mudgee, and his vast experience in Production Car racing has taken him all the way to the pinnacle event of the season – (competing in) the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour.

His best result in the 300’s came at Wakefield Park last year, where he finished second outright, alongside Daniel Kapetanovic, in a BMW 328i.

Grant Elliot, on the other hand, will be competing in his first Lakeside 300, when he takes to the track this Sunday afternoon.

Hailing from Noosa, Elliot has previously raced in Historic Touring Cars, and is currently competing in Sprints and Hill Climbs on a regular basis, in his Elfin Streamliner MS8 sports car, but what he is probably best known for, are his four years competing in the Supercars Development Series, back in the early 2000s.

The car Elliot and Sugden will drive this weekend finished third, in its class, in the 2017 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour, and was built by its owner, Rob D Sandro, down in Sydney.

Thirteen cars will contest the 2018 Lakeside 300, and there’s no reason why this car/combination shouldn’t be considered an outright contender, as BMW goes in search of its third Lakeside triumph.

Elliot and Sugden are proudly sponsored by: Noosa Laser Clinic, Pinnacle automotive and Finch Financial.

The Lakeside 300 will be staged this Sunday afternoon, and is preceded by unofficial practice on Friday, plus official Practice, Qualifying and a Top-Ten Shootout on Saturday. #MoreThanRacing
