Anderson podiums again

Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway is rated by Grant Anderson as one of his favourite tracks, and in last Saturday night’s final round of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series there, he managed to add to his 2018-19 season podium tally.

Following a maiden World Series Sprintcar Championship round win and a top-10 finish in the Grand Annual Classic at Premier Speedway, the Albury, NSW-based racer started the Eureka Series grand final deciding feature race from the outside of the front row and went on to complete the podium in third place.

“It’s always a very satisfying feeling when you get to finish on the podium at Warrnambool,” commented the Vic # 37 Latrobe Valley Bandag / WASP Steering & Suspension supported Maxim driver.

“The team as usual put in a great effort with the car throughout the night and it put us in a good position to run at the front and go on to come away with a podium result.”

Anderson earlier in the night recorded the third quickest lap in his qualifying group and then back it up with two strong performances in his heat races, with a second in his opening heat race and a win from the back of the field in his second and final heat race. Earning a spot in the Pole Shootout as the sixth highest point scorer, he was able to advance up to second quickest and claim a front-row feature-race start.

Regarding Anderson’s plans for the rest of the 2018-19 season, he is going to be running the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship on April 13 at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway and then the third-round Easter Trail the following weekend (April 19, 20 and 21) at Avalon Raceway, Borderline Speedway and Premier Speedway tracks.

“I’m looking forward to finishing what has been a strong season on a high note,” enthused Anderson, who is a two-time overall Easter Trail point standings winner.

“Valvoline Raceway is a track I always enjoy racing at and in past seasons we’ve always enjoyed a solid run over the Easter Trail and I’m hoping that can continue.”

Heading into the Easter Trail final round, Anderson is placed second in the Premier Speedway Track Championship point standings. He currently sits 46 points behind leader Jamie Veal.
