Mark Dutton will continue to engineer Jamie Whincup's Red Bull Holden for the remainder of the V8 Supercars season.
Dutton had returned to the role in Townsville at the weekend in what was billed as a one-off before Ludo Lacroix took over at Queensland Raceway.
Whincup's desire to reunite full-time with Dutton, who engineered the driver to five titles before becoming team manager last season, appears to have triggered a change of plans.
“I'll be there for the rest of the year,” Dutton confirmed on Inside Supercars.
Dutton says that lifting the #1 Holden will ultimately help the entire team including team-mate Craig Lowndes, who currently sits second in the championship – six places ahead of Whincup.
“We keep talking about Jamie – it's not all for him and about him,” he said.
“It's a whole team thing. If both cars are doing well you grow and learn off each other and get better and better.
“Big picture, the engineering group worked really well together (in Townsville). We stepped it up at the weekend and we hope we can continue that.
“Craig is still our lead ship so there is still a lot of focus on him being up there.”
Former race engineer David Cauchi continues as part of the #1 car's engineering group, performing what team owner Roland Dane describes as a ‘performance engineer' position.
Dane and Dutton will now share team management duties under the revised arrangement.
