Ferrari says the Catalunya circuit will provide the perfect test bed to measure the Italian marque's progress against the benchmark Mercedes outfit ahead of this weekend's Spanish GP.
The opening European race of the season at the Barcelona will see further upgrades to the Ferrari F14 T.
Fernando Alonso provided Ferrari with its first podium of the season at the Chinese GP last month.
Ferrari chassis technical director James Allison said the 4.655km Barcelona track has all of the characteristics to thoroughly test a car.
“(the track) is perfect for testing every aspect of a car's performance and thus provides a good platform on which to make that comparison,” Allison.
“We are learning how to get performance out of this new set of regulations and hopefully to make this car more competitive.
“The key to a successful season is to keep improving your car at every race.”
Allison said there were significant improvements on the F14 T in between the Bahrain and Chinese rounds with Ferrari going all-out to ensure the gains continue race-to-race.
“If we can do that, bringing a meaningful amount of performance to every one of those races, we will keep seeing steps forward,” Allison said.
