MEDIA RELEASE: The Leukaemia Foundation today opened registrations for motoring enthusiasts to join its latest Aussie Muscle Car Run event taking place in Victoria for the first time.
This unique fundraising event provides owners of cars manufactured during the period of 1963 to 1977 (replicas welcome) with an opportunity to show case their legendary vehicles to the wider community in a week-long cruise in May 2016.
The Leukaemia Foundation’s Aussie Muscle Car Run has been held in South Australia with huge success since 2012 raising over $1.1 million to support families affected by blood cancer.
In 2016 the Foundation is bringing this impressive event to Victoria and will see approximately 100 people travelling in 50 muscle cars in a leisurely paced motoring run around a broad sweep of the state.
“We invite car clubs and owners to sign up for this iconic motoring event that celebrates an era of the most outstanding vehicle competition in the world,” said Stephanie Hechenberger, General Manager of the Leukaemia Foundation in Victoria.
“With places limited, it is an event that cannot be missed by any Aussie Muscle Car enthusiast that yearns for the glory days of Bathurst.”
The run will take in some of Victoria’s most scenic roads while offering entrants the opportunity to participate in several iconic motorsport events. Highlights include special visits to Holden and Ford Proving Ground, a track day at Winton Motor Raceway, Drags at Heathcote Park Raceway as well as Motorkhana and Drags at South Coast Raceway in Portland.
The registration fee covers accommodation, daily breakfast and dinner, motor sport events, car livery, overnight security for the vehicles, support mechanics, entertainment along the way and more. Once registered, participants are then required to fundraise a minimum of $4,000 per car to be eligible to participate.
All proceeds raised from the Aussie Muscle Car Run will be directed to the Leukaemia Foundation’s Victorian Patient Accommodation Centre, the Building of Hope.
“In Victoria we are aiming to raise $260,000 to invest in the provision of long term accommodation at no charge for families from regional and rural areas who need to relocate to Melbourne for life-saving treatment,” said Ms Hechenberger.
There are also places open for ‘special interest’ cars to participate (as determined by the event organisers).
Modern muscle cars as well as other racing vehicles will be considered for entry.
