It might be taking a bit longer than originally anticipated, but the Northam Motorplex team is committed to opening the track when it’s 100 percent ready to go and they are currently in the process of a complete rebuild of the track’s safety fence wall and catch fence.
The Northam Motorplex team recently purchased new fence panels and fence columns, which they are now all ready to go on-site and be installed around the track in the not-too-distant future.
“It’s a very exciting development with the rebuild process of the Northam Motorplex following the arrival of the necessary materials for the safety wall and fence,” enthused Northam Motorplex owner Rick Musarra.
“Since taking over the ownership of the Northam Motorplex in early 2020, the goal has always been to do everything properly and not do anything half-arsed, and when we were thoroughly inspecting the safety wall and fence, it became apparent that the safety wall and fence needed to be replaced.”
As one would expect, the rebuild of the track’s entire safety wall and fence is a massive undertaking and it has consequently delayed the reopening of the Northam Motorplex.
“To be honest, the original plans were to have the Northam Motorplex back up and running by now, but it hasn’t worked out that way and we have so far spent in excess of $500,000 on upgrades to the facility, which includes $150,000 on the new safety wall and fence alone,” Musarra explained.
“With the current upgrade of the track’s safety fence and wall, the goal is to get the Northam Motorplex to have a four-star track rating with Speedway Australia and that will allow us to run any speedway classes, including Sprintcars.”
The Northam Motorplex team envisage a further 12 months in the rebuild process and their goal is to open at the beginning of the 2023-24 season.
