Four Australian drag racers are hoping that Australia Day will mean success for them as they head across to New Zealand for a major drag racing event to be held this weekend in Auckland.
Queenslander Kelly Corbett; ANDRA Drag Racing Series Pro Stock regular, Scott Porter; Dom Luppino and Chris Fakinos will make their way to FRAM Autolite Dragway just outside Auckland for the V4 and Rotary Nationals, which is part of a larger extreme sport showcase happening at the dragway and various other locations around Auckland.
29-year-old Corbett has been towards the top of the Aeroflow Sportsman Series categories for some time and has been billed as one of the headline acts in NZ. She will be piloting the Jett Racing Datsun Ute in the event.
She’s excited for the opportunity to race in New Zealand for the first time.
“I can’t wait to get out there and put on a show for all the fans in New Zealand, and at the same time will be hunting after an event win and the New Zealand national four cylinder record (7.43 seconds at 178 miles per hour) – my personal best in Australia in the ute to date is 7.14 seconds at 192 miles per hour, so I think we can do it!” Corbett confidently said.
Her team owner, Collin Willshire praised Kelly’s approach to the sport and believes this opportunity is just reward for her and Jett Racing’s youthful approach to the sport.
“As a dynamic young female racer who has the talent to match her enthusiasm, Kelly is really breathing life into our team and I am sure will provide Jett Racing with the perfect kick-off to our 2014 season with this great international event,” he said.
The NZ V4 and Rotary Nationals, including the four Aussies, will be held at Fram Autolite Dragway on January 25 and 26.
