Kamui Kobayashi will rejoin the Caterham F1 squad for this weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
The Leafield-based team has confirmed the 27-year-old Japanese driver will return to his seat which he vacated for sportscar ace Andre Lotterer at the Belgian Grand Prix two weeks ago.
However, Kobayashi will share his CT05 with Spanish DTM driver Roberto Mehri, who will make his grand prix weekend debut in Friday's opening free practice session.
The 23-year-old won the F3 EuroSeries title in 2011.
It is not yet clear whether Kobayashi will compete in the remainder of the F1 races this season.
Caterham claimed Lotterer's wealth of racing experience in various machinery was the reason for the call up in Belgium, as the team continue to struggle to extract the best out of the CT05.
“I am working for Caterham F1 Team and I always respect team decisions,” said Kobayashi.
“Now I am back in the car and looking forward to going racing again.
“We have worked hard as a team and added performance to the car as well as bringing new updates since I last drove in Hungary before the summer break, so I'm looking forward to feeling the updates on track here in Monza.”
Kobayashi has competed in 71 grands prix since making his debut in 2009.
