Applications are now open for young Australian racers to become part of the inaugural Fujitsu ‘Cool’ Driver Program.
Seven karters (one from each state of Australia) and four drivers from the Australian Formula Ford Championship will be selected for the program and receive financial support, plus the chance for the karters to test with an Australian Formula Ford Championship team, while one Formula Ford driver will test a Garry Rogers Motorsport V8 Supercar.
Fujitsu Cool Driver program founder Chris Jewell says that since the announcement of the development program in December, the reaction has been pleasing.
“The initial response to the program has been very encouraging,” he told Speedcafe.com.au.
“From the recent website monitoring stats I’ve seen, I’m really looking forward to seeing the number and quality of the applicants wanting to become part of this exciting new initiative.
“The Fujitsu ‘Cool Driver’ Program evaluation phase will be exhaustive, but I’m sure the final 11 candidates will enjoy the added financial and career support, while representing the program exceptionally well.”
While the program is only open to Australian residents, Jewell told Speedcafe that expressions of interest have come from far and wide. He says he has received correspondence from every state and territory in Australia, plus New Zealand, USA, China, Hong Kong, England, Germany, France, India and even Kazakhstan!
Applications close on January 26, where all applications will be reviewed by the stakeholder group, consisting of Fujitsu General (Aust.) Pty Limited, Velocity Management Group Pty Ltd, Garry Rogers Motorsport Pty Ltd and a yet to be announced Formula Ford team.
The timing for the review of applications will take place in early February and acceptance into the Fujitsu ‘Cool’ Driver Program will be offered to the selected candidates by the middle of February, 2011.
