The timing of this year’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 proved to be on the money after extensive rain and snow showers blanketed Mount Panorama over this past weekend.
Just seven days after the ‘Great Race’ Mount Panorama looked more like Thredbo in the Snowy Mountains!
The entire Central West of New South Wales was hit by the cold blast with the State Emergency Service (SES) called to 99 jobs across the region since Thursday as wild winds, rain and snow lashed the area.
The town of Blayney was hit with heavy falls of snow with 120 SES volunteers kept busy working across the Central West.
Over the years the Bathurst race week has seen all types of weather including fog that delayed the 1978 start, snow during the evening prior to the 1984 race and heavy rain that flooded the pit complex just days prior to the 2000 race.
However, race organisers would have been left calling for snow ploughs if the race was last weekend!
