Bathurst Regional Council (BRC) has launched a tender process to secure the design for the proposed second circuit at Mount Panorama.

This is the latest step of a long mooted plan to construct a state-of-the art FIA/FIM accredited permanent circuit at Bathurst, expected to cost $50 million.

An area of land west of McPhillamy Park and Reid Park has been allocated for the circuit after plans to build south of The Chase were abandoned last year.

A Bathurst Regional Council Expressions of Interest document, obtained by Speedcafe.com, stipulates a maximum length of 4.58km for the track, with the design based around a template provided.

The document states,“the design where appropriate will be able to be modified to suit site requirements, cost consideration, spectator access and required approvals.”

Nine preliminary layouts have been designed based around the original full 4.58km template.

The drawings show the ability for the circuit to run several configurations for different situations.

Designers will have to gain FIA and FIM approval and provide detailed drawings of all circuit facilities.

These include paddock support areas, ticketing/entry structure, pit garage complex, public vehicular and pedestrian entrances and carparks, competitor access and carparks, track safety structures and spectator areas.

Applicants are required to submit their designs before 4pm on May 2 with the successful candidate expected to be revealed in July.

The design, documentation and lodgement to NSW Planning will be completed prior to December this year.
