Ferrari has shown of its own solution to the 2014 Formula 1 regulation changes, revealing a car that appears strikingly different to its competitors.
While others to reveal their cars in recent days, including Williams and McLaren, have opted for ‘finger' nose designs, the new Ferrari features a sweeping, flat front-end.
Although more aesthetically pleasing, the design is already receiving criticism from some quarters for being too conservative.
As ever, the nose designs are a compromise between producing the desired front downforce and drag numbers while controlling the airflow over the remainder of the car.
Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali stressed the reliability, not outright speed, will be the key in the early part of the season.
“The technical challenge is the biggest we have seen in the last 10 years in F1,” he said.
“The season will be very, very long, so it is important to start with a very reliable car and then keep having the development on the aerodynamic side that was not there last year.
“I expect the first days of testing to be very challenging, and we must avoid falling under the big pressure we have. We need to stay very focused on the job.”
The team enters the season with a revitalised driver line-up following its decision to replace Felipe Massa with Kimi Raikkonen.
Raikkonen one the 2007 title with the Scuderia, while his 2014 team-mate, Fernando Alonso, has finished second with the squad in three of the last four years.
