Touring Car Masters series organisers are eyeing a maiden appearance at the Castrol Townsville 500 next season.
The V8 Supercars support class has publicly declared its desire to add the North Queensland meeting to its traditional fixture at Darwin's Hidden Valley Raceway.
The move follows recent comments from Townsville mayor Jenny Hill, who told local media that her community would “love to see” the TCM at its event.
“We have been blown away by the support shown by not only the Mayor of Townsville, but by local fans who have gone on record to express their desire to see TCM come to town,” said category manager Tony Hunter.
“There is no doubt that we would put on a brilliant show at that facility and the track would lend itself towards providing great racing from our cars.
“It would make sense from a transport point of view to head straight to Townsville from Darwin given they are usually a few weeks apart.
“It would be good for the series and we will certainly be working towards getting TCM to North Queensland next year.”
The 2014 TCM schedule sees the category race at Adelaide, Winton, Hidden Valley, Sydney Motorsport Park, Sandown, Bathurst and Phillip Island; all with the V8 Supercars Championship.
This month's Townsville event meanwhile saw the Dunlop Series, Carrera Cup Australia, Australian GT Championship and V8 Ute Racing Series all in action supporting the V8 Supercars.
John Bowe holds a slender points lead over Eddie Abelnica ahead of the fourth round of this year's TCM season at Sydney Motorsport Park on August 22-24.
