A lack of consistency is all that is preventing IRWIN Racing from being a regular in the V8 Supercar top 10, according to team driver Alex Davison.
Davison, currently 22nd in the standings, has shown glimpses of speed throughout the season but has been unable to regularly position himself in the top 10.
“If we can find some consistent speed then I believe we have a top 10 car,” Davison said.
“I have no doubt that we can be competitive. We’re in the window, but just need to put everything together.”
Davison had a frustrating result at last weekend’s Ipswich 300 at Queensland Raceway.
“It was a disappointing weekend, we changed the feel of the car completely but still lacked consistent speed,” said Alex Davison.
“We definitely showed that we could be competitive from time to time but a power steering issue and then getting a drive through doesn’t help. While technically I was to blame (for the drive through) I only touched (Paul) Dumbrell very, very lightly – I was a bit unlucky really.
“Had those situations not happened we would have been in the top 12 to 14 across both races.”
Davison has put last weekend well and truly behind him as he prepares for a competition of a different kind.
Race fans can meet IRWIN Racing’s Alex Davison at the IRWIN Tools Ultimate Tradesman Challenge (UTC) this weekend.
The IRWIN Tools UTC is a part of the WorldSkills national completion incorporating the National Careers and Education Expo at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
“I’m looking forward to putting last weekend behind me and having a go at the IRWIN Tools UTC and bettering my time and meeting a few of the fans,” said Alex Davison.
WorldSkills, a trade Olympics, is being held in conjunction with the National Careers and Education Expo. This free and interactive public event is designed to showcase the many career options on offer for Australia’s youth – in particular trade apprenticeships.
WorldSkills competitors and guests can compete in the IRWIN Tools UTC all weekend.
The quickest WorldSkills UTC competitor will receive $2,000 worth of IRWIN Tools and go to the Australia / New Zealand final in December where they will get the chance to qualify for the world final in North America in March 2011.
Non WorldSkills competitors can challenge for the tools prize but can not compete for the WorldSkills place in the Australian final.
