Bathurst Regional Council has received a further $2.5 million funding boost from Federal Government for its proposed second circuit at Mount Panorama.

The extra windfall has seen Federal Government increase its overall funding of the project to $12.5 million, which will be used for construction of the track and Stage 1 of the pit complex of the $52 million permanent facility.

Total funding for the project has now reached $27.5 which has been accrued via grants from State and Federal Government.

The FIM/FIA accredited second circuit at Mount Panorama will be located at a 200 hectare site west of McPhillamy Park and host a variety of motor vehicle and motorcycle events. It will cater for approximately 50,000 spectators.

“After years of lobbying and many meetings down in Canberra, I’m delighted to be able to deliver a further $2.5 million towards the second circuit at Bathurst’s world-renowned Mount Panorama. This takes the total investment by the Federal Government to $12.5 million,” said Federal Member for Calare, Andrew Gee.

“When complete, the second circuit at Mount Panorama will cement Bathurst as the racing capital of Australia with the return of motorcycles for the first time in more than 100 years.

“It’s projects such as this that make our regional communities such wonderful places to live, work and raise a family and I’m excited to see the positive benefits that this will bring to the entire Central West.”

British firm Apex Circuit Design has been charged to deliver a master plan for a minimum 4.7km track which can be split into two separate layouts.

The firm’s design director Dafydd Broom visited the site in September to assist with its design process which is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2020.

Once delivered, BRC will then submit the documents for planning approval.
