Supercars fans will be able to attend Friday’s pre-season test but will be restricted to limited viewing areas and facilities at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The championship has advised that not all areas and gates of the Western Sydney venue will be open for the test day, which will see the Supercars field assembled for the first time prior to the Adelaide 500 season opener (March 1-4).
Speedcafe.com has been informed by Supercars that fans won’t be turned away but spectators will only have access to the paddock and rooftop viewing platform on top of the garages.
The start/finish straight grandstand will be closed to the public while the extent of facilities in operation will be subject to and managed by the circuit.
“Supercars has advised fans are able to attend the test but in limited areas. Not all areas of Sydney Motorsport Park will be open to the public,” said a Supercars spokesman.
Additional staff and crowd marshals from both the circuit and Supercars would be required to open up the entire circuit for fans, at a cost to both organisations.
The SuperTest in 2015 was the last time the circuit was opened fully to fans for a Supercars pre-season hit out.
