Red Bull has experienced Formula 1’s new 2017 specification Pirelli slick tyres for the first time during a test at Italy’s Mugello circuit.
Former Toro Rosso driver Sebastien Buemi completed 82 laps of running on the new rubber as he enjoyed a return to F1 machinery for the first time in two years.
Buemi conducted runs on a selection of different compounds and structures using a modified 2015 Red Bull RB11.
The new wider tyres are set to be introduced next season as part of a raft of regulation changes, including a vastly increased downforce package.
Red Bull’s two day test arrived after Ferrari carried out development of Pirelli’s new wet compound tyres at the Fiorano test track with Sebastian Vettel earlier this week.
Buemi will jump back behind the wheel for the final day of the test later today.
