David Reynolds was forced to quell his renewed aggression for fear of taking his team-mate Mark Winterbottom out in the closing stages of Race 16.
Reynolds launched a serious attack on leader Winterbottom in the closing laps before he was forced to let common sense prevail and retreat from a potentially embarrassing overtaking move.
While the Prodrive Racing Australia team allowed the pair to race with Reynolds, the Bottle-O Ford driver was not prepared to risk taking championship leader Winterbottom out.
“I would have looked like an arsehole if I took out the championship leader,” Reynolds said.
“With about four laps to go the tyres were starting to go.
“Between turn 2 and 3 there's a little stretch where there is not a corner but my car turned it into a corner the tyres were going that bad.
“I caught him (Winterbottom) and I had a little look in turn 11 but wasn't 100 percent sure so I took the safe option.”
Reynolds confirmed that he experienced what appeared to be a glitch in the engine of his Ford earlier in the 70-lap encounter, which then corrected itself.
“I was noticing a bit of engine drama, it sounded like it was dropping a cylinder or something, it sounded like a tractor but it was just a sensor gone wrong,” Reynolds said.
“I don't think it cost me that much really. It just sounded s..t.”
