Will Davison and Ash Walsh recorded a one-two for Erebus Motorsport in the final practice session ahead of qualifying at the Castrol Edge Townsville 400.
The two Mercedes AMGs were among those to use the soft tyres for their quick times.
Walsh went to the top with a 1:13.29s on his run before being eclipsed to the tune of 0.26s by Davison in the final minutes.
Despite topping two of the weekend's four sessions to date, Davison's true position in the pecking order remains a major unknown thanks to the mix of tyre compounds.
“The car is really well balanced on the soft tyre, but it's hard to know where we are on the hards,” he said.
“I think we made some gains but the set I ran in that session were shot, they just warmed the car up.”
Nick Percat repeated his top three result from Friday in third ahead of Scott Pye, Chaz Mostert and Mark Winterbottom.
There was drama for Scott McLaughlin, whose session came to an end with an engine failure just six minutes in.
The issue left the Volvo parked at the exit of Turn 8, triggering the red flags.
Elsewhere, Shane van Gisbergen was seventh after his Tekno Autosports outfit appeared to fix its vibration issues from Friday.
“We seem to be all clear now we can just focus on the car,” affirmed team manager Steve Hallam.
“We are a little bit behind everyone else, but we know the car is quick, we just need to tune it before qualifying.
“You can't get the practice time back we will just have to deal with it.”
The Holden Racing Team meanwhile gave Garth Tander's Commodore the all-clear after overnight work to fix a misfire in the #02 entry.
Tander ended up 20th, one place behind Red Bull's Jamie Whincup, who continued his lacklustre run ahead of qualifying.
