Erebus Motorsport has cancelled plans to undertake a test day at Queensland Raceway tomorrow ahead of the Sandown 500.
Red Bull Racing Australia and Tekno Autosports will share the Ipswich circuit on Tuesday amid a busy week of testing across the V8 Supercars field.
The majority of teams have been eagerly awaiting their single private day of the season in order to test development items and explore set-up directions, as well as give co-drivers important mileage.
Erebus team manager Ben Croke however says the privately funded Mercedes-AMG outfit will concentrate on preparing for Sandown from its Yatala workshop.
The squad continues to carefully manage its resources during a season that has seen a restructure of the business, which included a significant trimming of staffing levels in June.
“We have elected to postpone the test day for tomorrow,’’ team manager Ben Croke confirmed to Speedcafe.com.
“The management team believes that we are better placed to have a solid and well planned workshop preparation for Sandown rather than two rushed preparations either side of the test day.
“We’ve done this in the past and it has worked well so we are comfortable with our preparation going into Sandown.’’
With race meetings run in quick succession after Bathurst, it remains to be seen whether the team will utilise its private test day at all during the year.
Although co-drivers Jack Le Brocq and Alex Davison miss out on clocking more miles before Sandown, the pair have at least been given laps during Friday practice at recent events.
DJR Team Penske is the only other squad not testing in the lead up to Sandown, having used its day in April following a troubled start to the season.
