Craig Lowndes has spent time in a Cryosports chamber ahead of the second 37-lap race at the Sydney NRMA 500.
Lowndes is suffering from extreme soreness following his heavy qualifying accident for the opening sprint around the Sydney Olympic Park venue.
The Red Bull team have yet to download data to determine the g-force load of the accident.
The team has elected to utilise the revolutionary treatment in the portable Cryosports chamber which conveniently is located next to the team transporter in the V8 pavillion.
Temperature in the chamber is at -80c which is designed to ease pain and promote fast recovery.
Lowndes has been heavily strapped on the right side of his body with team physio Chris Brady saying he is fit to drive however they are managing his soreness ahead of the second race and the long 250km final race of the season tomorrow.
“He is okay. Very sore and tender but we are managing the process,” Brady told Speedcafe.com
“Craig naturally doesn't complain about anything so when he looks at you with those eyes that say ‘I'm really sore' you pay attention.
“We don't have any data from the accident yet. Big is the only number we have.
“We used the chamber because we want to maximise recovery and we know that recovery is important for these races.
“Because he is taped up we don't want to get the tape wet and it has worked ideally having the chamber right here.”
