The MotoE field will test at Valencia in mid-June ahead of the start of its inaugural season, which was postponed after every bike was destroyed by fire.
All 18 electric bikes were lost during the first test of the year in Jerez in mid-March, with a preliminary investigation revealing that a short circuit caused the high-density battery which is used to charge the bikes to ignite.
The incident forced the first round to be delayed from the Spanish MotoGP event at the same venue in early May to the German MotoGP in July.
Dorna, the commercial rights holder for MotoGP and the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, has now announced that a test will take place at Valencia, which will now host the final two races of the season, on June 17-19.
The third day of that test is set to be held as a trial run for a race weekend, weather permitting, including an E-pole simulation granting riders the chance to set one fastest lap at a time.
There will then be “a full race simulation, where riders will get a chance to practice overtakes and race strategy,” the winner of which will receive an Energica Eva road bike.
The timing of the test means that Energica, which supplies a race tuned version of its Ego road bike for all MotoE competitors to race, is “expect(ed) to have built all the machinery for the season in less than three months” according to Dorna.
