Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series driver Nick Percat will compete with the number 222 this season, as part of his link with the Holden Racing Team and Walkinshaw Racing.
The Holden Racing Team has competed with the numbers 2 and 22 since 2003, and Percat will combine those numbers, signifying his link with the factory operation.
Percat signed a long-term contract with Walkinshaw Racing in 2008 as a junior driver. He won the Australian Formula Ford Championship last year and will progress to the Fujitsu V8 Series this year, driving the #222 Holden Commodore for South Australian team Jay Motorsports.
Percat says that the number is an important sign of his association with Toll HRT and the Walkinshaw group.
“It’s just shows my link back to Walkinshaw team,” he said.
“The whole idea behind it was to have a closer link. It might even help out in terms of recognition and potential sponsors. They look at my car and the HRT cars – it’s just an obvious link back to the team. It helps with everything.”
Percat liases with Toll HRT drivers Garth Tander and Will Davison on a week-to-week basis, receiving advice and tuition. He also trains with them.
“I train with those guys and they give me advice at the track and away from the track. They support anything I need and if I’ve got a question, I just call them and they answer them for me,” he said.
“They’ve been a pretty big help in my career so far. I wouldn’t have got as much exposure as I have without Walkinshaw Racing’s assistance, and I wouldn’t have been racing Formula Ford without their help. They’ve all played a major part in my career.”
