Supercars boss Sean Seamer say there was no intention to keep the Holden Commodore aero tweaks ‘a secret’, stating that processes delayed official communication.
News broke on Friday morning with the changes confirmed by team owners during a press conference already scheduled prior to the publication of yesterday’s story.
There has yet to be any official word clarifying the changes from Supercars on the matter, however Seamer has since confirmed today that there was ‘nothing untoward’ in the lack of communication regarding the changes.
The two previous parity adjustments made this season were announced by Supercars.
Seamer explained the process post all Commission meetings, which includes finalising, rubber stamping of the commission papers by its members and formally advising teams, needed to take its course before the changes became public. The news broke before that process had fully concluded.
“It’s not like we were holding anything back,” Seamer told Speedcafe.com.
“We just knew everyone would be here this weekend, and we were prepared to talk about it when we got here.
“But we had to take care of the internal communication processes, make sure all of the teams were aware that the Commission bullet points had been done right, so on and so forth. So, there’s nothing untoward about it.”
Seamer says he understands fan frustrations regarding the matter and reiterated that ensuring teams were aware of the changes was the priority.
“I can see that (fan frustrations). By the same token, you’re never going to be able to keep something like that (a secret),” Seamer added.
“There was no intention to try and keep it a secret, because you’d never be able to do that.
“So it’s just a matter of we need to follow our processes and do the right thing, and make sure we’re above reproach in the way we’re handling any changes, in the way that we communicate those internally to the teams and to the manufacturers as a priority, and I’d hope that the fans would accept and respect that.
“I think if people feel that there’s a need for us to go through that process, we can.
“I think that the team owners discussed it at length in the press conference yesterday.
“We’ve obviously let everybody know or responded to exactly what happened in terms of the process from this Commission, going into the Commission, the approval, what those changes were.
“I don’t know if there’s anything more to say, to be honest with you, it is what it is. But if people feel like we need to provide greater clarity, then we can do that.”
