UK pop star Robbie Williams has been announced as the headline act for the Sunday night concert at next year’s Adelaide 500, effectively revealing the start date of the 2018 Supercars calendar.
With the concert taking place on Sunday March 4, the announcement effectively confirms the date for the 2018 event as March 1 to 4.
The Adelaide 500 has ended on the first Sunday of March each year since returning to season-opening status in 2012, after two years following the Yas Marina (and in 2010, also Bahrain) events.
Williams’ appearance will come off the back of his ‘The Heavy Entertainment Show’ tour across Europe this northern summer, following the release of the album of the same title in 2016.
The 43-year-old last performed in Australia on his ‘Let Me Entertain You’ tour in 2015, and has sold over 70 million albums as a solo artist.
“Robbie Williams is a world class showman and his performance at next year’s Adelaide 500 is destined to make the 2018 event bigger and better than ever,” said South Australian Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell.
“Adelaide 500 is not just about motorsport; it’s about providing outstanding entertainment and is a perfect opportunity to show off everything our stunning city has to offer.
“I am absolutely thrilled to welcome Robbie Williams as our Sunday night headline act for the 20th anniversary of Adelaide 500.”
