Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge race winner Jon McCorkindale is set to join the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series later this year ahead of a full campaign in 2017.
The New South Wales racer is likely to join the grid at Phillip Island in September following the acquisition of an ex-James Courtney/Stone Brothers Racing BF Falcon from Image Racing.
The SBR 05 chassis has a rich history having been raced by Courtney in Supercars before it contested the Development Series with Scott McLaughlin in 2010 and in 2011.
Image Racing fielded the car in the opening two rounds of this year’s Kumho V8 Series for Tyler Greenbury, who has since upgraded to a FG Falcon.
McCorkindale’s switch to the category arrives after three years in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, where he won five races and finished runner-up in the 2014 series.
“We are proud to announce we have purchased an ex-SBR BF Ford Falcon from Image Racing to contest in the Kumho V8 Touring Car series later this year and in 2017,” said McCorkindale.
“I would just like to thank Dial Before You Dig – especially Dominic and Paul – because without your support this would not be possible. Watch this space in coming weeks for the release of the Dial Before You Dig Falcon.”
McCrokindale, who has been racing in the new Toyota 86 Series this season, is expected to test the Falcon before his Phillip Island round debut from September 9-11.
