Mercedes is the latest manufacturer to join the growing GT4 market with the reveal of its AMG GT R.
The German marque has released renderings of its new race car which is based around the Mercedes AMG GT R road car.
Already a force in GT3 racing, Mercedes is the latest in a line of manufacturers to join the booming GT4 arena following in the footsteps of McLaren, Porsche, Aston Martin, KTM and Ford. The latter uncovered its new Mustang GT4 just last month.
Mercedes is yet to reveal technical details of its latest offering along with the date for its competitive debut.
“The development of the Mercedes-AMG GT4 is another important step in the continuing expansion of our Mercedes-AMG motorsport programme,” said chairman Tobias Moers.
“The excellent feedback of our Customer Sports teams concerning the AMG GT3 and the increasing interest for GT4 race cars strengthened us in our decision.
“We are delighted to address an even larger target group of amateur and professional drivers and teams in the future with it.”
The GT4 class is set for a boom in Australia next year with several cars already confirmed for the Bathurst 12 Hour in February.
Australian GT will also introduce a bespoke class within its five-round Trophy Series.
