Malaysian Moto2 rider Hafizh Syahrin will test the vacant Tech3 Yamaha in the next official MotoGP test at Buriram.
Syahrin’s call-up comes as the satellite Yamaha team continues to search for a permanent replacement for Jonas Folger, who has been ruled out for the season due to Gilbert’s syndrome.
“First of all, I want to thank (team principal) Herve Poncharal for giving me this opportunity and of course the entire Monster Yamaha Tech3 team,” said the 23-year-old.
“I’ll try to do my very best during these three days in Thailand.
“For me, it’s a dream coming true to be able to ride a MotoGP machine. I have to admit that I’m overly excited to get this chance.”
Yonny Hernandez tested for Tech3 in the last test in Sepang, but Syahrin is now thought to have the inside running for the seat given that he was recently replaced on the 2018 Moto2 entry list.
The three-day test takes place on February 16-18.
