Will Davison will experience a taste of rallycross when he gets behind the wheel of a Supercar Lite at Lakeside Raceway on Friday.
The Erebus Motorsport driver will witness the opening round of the Extreme Rallycross Championship at the newly constructed rallycross circuit on Brisbane’s northern outskirts.
After observing the action, Davison will be shown the ropes of the 300bhp Ford Fiesta Supercar Lite by rally ace and Extreme Rallycross Championship driver Alister McRae, before cutting laps of the circuit.
Invited to test by Extreme Rallycross promoter David Ridden, Davison says he would consider competing if the right opportunity can be found.
“I love watching the stuff in the (United) States so it’s going to be pretty awesome to have a bit of a taste of it here,” Davison told Speedcafe.com.
“From a driver’s point of view it looks pretty exciting so its great that it (rallycross) is coming to Australia.
“Obviously my plans completely depend on my team in V8 Supercars and it would have to have their blessing, but if it was all clear by them I’d love to be involved.
“I spent a lot of my childhood growing up on driving on dirt and I’ve always loved it.
“This type of racing is half from my world with the bitumen surface and then there is a dirt element and a racing aspect.
“At the end of the day it looks competitive, intense and a lot of fun.”
Davison is not the first V8 Supercars driver to test a Supercar Lite after Brad Jones Racing’s Macauley Jones clocked laps at the championship’s Lakeside Raceway shakedown day last month.
The inaugural round of the Extreme Rallycross Championship is due to to begin 10:30 on Friday with action from 4WD, 2WD and Hyundai Excel classes.
The rallycross test will be Davison’s only track time prior to the Sandown 500 following Erebus’ late decision to cancel its planned pre-event test.
